Hunting and Working Drive: Gun dogs are often bred with a high level of energy and work ethic. These dogs thrive on activities that engage their physical and mental abilities. Retrieving is a form of fulfilling their purpose, and it gives them the opportunity to exercise their energy in a controlled and rewarding way.
In essence, a combination of genetic predisposition, natural instincts, and positive reinforcement training makes a gun dog highly motivated to fetch.
